Sadly it appears that a possible release for Psychonauts 2 is quickly fading after Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson announced that he would no longer be funding Tim Schafer’s sequel.
Last year Notch said in a tweet that he would be willing to help fund the project, but after learning the true meaning of the phrase “a couple of million,” he has announced that he is out. “I somewhat naively thought ‘a couple of million’ was two million. I had no doubt in my mind that a Psychonauts 2 would earn that money back easily. Turns out they wanted 18 million dollars, haha,” he explained on Reddit.
Notch added that he may decide to help fund projects in the future once he is done with game development. “Perhaps in some distant future when I’m no longer trying to make games, I could get into angel investing. I’ve made one private investment into a game so far, at $100K, and it’s frankly a lot more work than I thought.”
