Data miners have discovered a ton of new information about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds‘ upcoming snow map, including the size, the layout, new vehicles, and a new explosive type.
The first image of the map, which is apparently called “Dihor Otok” at the moment, reveals that the total size is 8×8, similar to Erangel and Miramar. The difference is that the actual landmass is only 6×6, which would fall in line with creator Brendan Greene’s previous statements that the snow map’s size would fall between the first two maps and the game’s third, smaller map, Sanhok. Like the other maps, Dihor Otok includes extremely different elevations, with the northern half of the map featuring the snowiest bits, including what looks like a frozen river.
Another uncovered image posted to Reddit reveals that there will be several massive structures on the map, which will potentially act as loot-heavy hot spots for opening moments of a match. These areas are called Cosmodrome, DinoPark, Villa, Town, Cement Factory, and Castle in the game’s files, so it sounds like PUBG is really expanding on the types of buildings and interiors that it’s including in Dihor Otok. Odd structures like spires and rocket ships were found in the game’s asset files, so expect some varied scenery.
Additionally, remote-controlled C4 explosives and a new vehicle resembling a VW Beetle were revealed, though it’s unclear if these items will launch with the new map or if they’re part of a different map or even limited-time mode.
PUBG announced that a new snow-themed map would launch in winter 2018 during Xbox’s E3 2018 press conference, so it sounds like Dihor Otok might come to both PC and Xbox One simultaneously. The game’s 1.0 Xbox One update recently introduced Sanhok to the console, though a bug is preventing players from unlocking the game’s newly added achievements.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available on Xbox One and PC.
