Puzzle Quest Developer Goes Solo After EA’s Firemint, IronMonkey Merger

Posted on July 28, 2012 AT 11:00am

Infinite Interactive, the creators and main driving force behind the Puzzle Quest series, are officially hitting the road and calling their own shots. Following the merger of EA’s Australian mobile gaming studios Firemint and IronMonkey, the Puzzle Quest team very quietly exited the corporate shuffle in favor of running their own independent operation.

According to the developers, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of more Puzzle Quest titles further down the road.

If anything, it means that an upcoming Puzzle Quest 3 could very well be their next project, as Infinite Interactive founder and creative lead Steve Fawkner recently divulged to Joystiq:

Fawkner explained he couldn’t get into the “nitty-gritty” details about intellectual property ownership and that things are “a little more complicated” than before, but that Infinite do still retain the Puzzle Quest and Warlords IP rights.

While I don’t have a specific announcement that I can make at the moment, if you shook a Magic 8-Ball and asked it ‘Will Infinite’s next game be a Puzzle Quest title?’, then it would quite probably say ‘All signs point to yes!’,” Fawkner explained.

Fawkner humorously said that there was no underlying scandal behind the scenes that prompted the decision, although it’s still curious to note that EA recently shut down Visceral Games’ Melbourne studio. If anything, Infinite Interactive’s move probably has a hint of self preservation to it, as other video game developers and publishers in Australia have also been downsizing.
