Bethesda and id Software announced during Gamescom that Quake Champions is now free to play forever.

Free players will be able to join the Quickplay, Ranked and Arcade game modes across all maps using two Champions: Ranger and Scalebearer. More Champions can be unlocked by completing the in-game tutorial and by spending Favor (the game’s in-game currency), which can be earned by playing matches. In addition, one free Champion will be rotated in each week to let players try them out before purchasing.

The publisher noted that the move to free to play does not mean that Quake Champions has left early access, as there is still additional polish, improvements, and new content to release before launch.

Finally, the Champions Pack is available at a discounted price for a limited time. This special pack grants access to all current Champions and instantly unlocks every Champion released in the future for $29.99 (usually $39.99). This offer will end on September 4th.

Quake Champions is available now as a free download on PC.
