THE BUZZ: Id Software has confirmed that its upcoming shooter Rage will ship on three discs for the Xbox 360 and that the PS3 version will require an 8GB mandatory install.

Tim Willits, Creative Director at id Software, stated that the best thing to do is install the game to your HD, but this will result in a 22GB install size. “We recommend installing the game to the hard drive, but you don’t need to install all three discs,” said Willits. “If you don’t have the space available on your hard drive, don’t stress. Install the first disc, the first chapter, the first half of the game, then when you’re done, uninstall and install disc two.”

He did confirm that there is no reason to keep swapping back to previous discs.

PS3 owners are lucky enough to receive the game on a single blu-ray disc, but must have the space for a whopping 8GB install.

EGM’s TAKE: Microsoft’s optical storage limitations keeps coming back to haunt them. Just as the PS3’s large mandatory installs keeps Sony from claiming clear superiority.
