Rainbow 6: Patriots Development Was Rebooted, Ubisoft Confirms

Posted on December 13, 2013 AT 01:45pm

Ubisoft has confirmed that development on Rainbow 6: Patriots has been rebooted.

Speaking to IGN, the publisher’s North American president, Luarent Detoc, said the decision was simply in service of wanting to deliver a better game. “We had a core team. They had a good vision. They got started, and then the game wasn’t working. So [they had] to start again.”

Detoc went on to reiterate that the game is still in development, now for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though he was quick to note that it still may not make it to store shelves.

“Now they’re going to have the benefit of the new consoles, if and when it comes out,” he continued. “It’s one of those examples where you try, it doesn’t work, you try again. If it doesn’t work, we’re not going to bring it to you.”

Detoc also said it was “possible” that the game may end up having an entirely different name and concept from what was previously shown.

The existence of Rainbow Six: Patriots was first outed in late 2011, when target gameplay footage leaked online. The six-minute concept video introduced a group of terrorists known as the True Patriots—widely and controversially believed to be a violent take on America’s right-wing Tea Party movement—as the game’s primary antagonists.

Shortly after, Ubisoft confirmed the game’s existence, but news has been scared in the years since.
