Popular Rare titles are returning to the limelight for a short while with the Rare Replay compilation being released on Xbox One next week. Among the thirty Rare titles being revamped, some fans are especially excited for the return of the old shooters Perfect Dark and Perfect Dark: Zero. While there is no continuation of the franchise in sight, there was nearly a third Perfect Dark title in the Rare canon, according to an image released by Rare’s Creative Director, Gregg Mayles.
According to Mayles, he was sorting through old design documents while posting some of the more interesting ones to Twitter, when he came across a document for a Perfect Dark sequel with the working title Velvet Dark.
Velvet was the name of main character Joanna Dark’s sister who appeared in the co-op mode of the first game, and she would have been the focus of this spinoff.
Velvet’s game was apparently planned for release on the N64 and was slated for a release somewhere between the two titles that did finish development. The two Perfect Dark titles that did see the light of day can be played fresh in Rare Replay, which releases next week on August 4 for Xbox One.
