In a brief interview with PlayStation Blog, Ready at Dawn co-founder Ru Weerasuriya shed some light on the studio’s current project, The Order: 1886.
According to Weerasuriya, The Order is a story-driven third-person action title with an unspecified amount of shooting mechanics—so think along the lines of Uncharted, but perhaps with a bit less emphasis on the gunplay (at least, that’s how I interpret Weerasuriya’s remark). Ready at Dawn’s co-founder describes the game as linear, stating that the developer sat Ready at Dawn are striving to create a “filmic experience” with their PS4 debut.
Weerasuriya kept quiet about specific plot details, but he did mention that while The Order exists in an alt-history version of 19th century London, they are trying to keep the setting anchored in the real world. To this end, they mapped London in full in an effort to “try and stay as true as possible to it.”
“You’ll recognize a lot of things,” Weerasuriya said about their digital interpretation of London.
The Order: 1886 was announced by way of teaser trailer during Sony’s pre-E3 press conference. Until now, no other details have emerged about the title beyond that it’s development is a collaboration God of War developers Ready at Dawn Studios and Sony Santa Monica, with Ready at Dawn taking point on the project.
The Order: 1886 is a Playstation 4 exclusive that has yet to receive a release window. In all likelihood, it’s a ways off—think 2015.
