Rockstar has introduced a new type of race to Red Dead Online Beta in today’s update.
Target Races see players racing on horseback to pass checkpoints. All players will start with a bow and arrow and can increase their horse’s stamina by hitting checkpoints or picking up Stamina pickups that are littered around the track. There are also weapon pickups available that will make taking out targets easier, or can be used to take out the competition. However, aiming at other riders can only be done using free aim. Read Rockstar’s full description of Target Races below:
All players start out with a bow and arrow – as you race, each target you hit will increase your Horse’s Stamina – but you can also take advantage of strategic pickups along the courses. Ride through Stamina pickups to extend your Horse’s sprinting time or quickly recover from a drained Horse Stamina core. Weapons pickups dole out firearms with limited ammo supplies – use a shotgun blast to quickly and easily takeout a checkpoint target or turn that weapon against your competition. While players can lock-on to checkpoint targets, using weapons against other competitors will require proficiency with free-aim. If you’re trailing behind, ride in your competitor’s slipstream to regenerate Horse Stamina quickly and gain a slight speed boost, or if you’re defending a lead you can kick your competitors to reduce their Horse Stamina levels with a slight chance of being able to knock them down.
PlayStation 4 owners will also get early access to Open Target Races from today. This variant of the Target Race takes place in an open space and lets players take out targets in any order they choose to.
In addition to the above, the Morning Tail Coat, Strickland Boots, Bowyer Boots (Female only), and Furred Gloves have been added to the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue for a limited time.
In other news, a major update will be released for Red Dead Online Beta later this spring that includes a Hostility System, a Defensive Play Style, new missions, and more.
