Injustice

Red Hood, Injustice 2‘s first DLC character, was supposed to have his official gameplay reveal on developer NetherRealm’s Watchtower stream. But one fan has already figured out a way to play as the tragic ex-Robin, uploading a 10-minute video before Warner Bros. took it down for copyright infringement. Thankfully, partial mirrors and alternate videos have already begun cropping up on YouTube, so you can still take a look if you act quickly enough. Here are a couple to check out while they last:

By changing the date in his Xbox One’s settings to June 13th, 2017, the original YouTuber was able to play as Red Hood through a variety of multiverse events. This means that Red Hood will be available to players on or before June 13th, though we won’t have to wait long to confirm this as his official release will be announced on the aforementioned stream.

The video gives us a pretty good idea of how Red Hood will play, with quick startups, decent zoning potential, and a trait that electrifies his pistol grips, giving his physical attacks a buff. It doesn’t look like he’s the hardest-hitting character, but his speed and adaptability should make up for that.

Fortunately for Jason Todd fans out there, we were able to grab some screens of his move list before the footage was taken down. We’ve transcribed them below, using the Xbox One inputs (for a character on the left side of the screen).

Here are his specials, including an interesting air grab move:

  • Ground Mine: ⬅ ➡ X
  • Close Ground Mine: ⬅ ➡ X ⬅
  • Far Ground Mine: ⬅ ➡ X ➡
  • Very Far Ground Mine: ⬅ ➡ X ⬆
  • Spin Parry: ⬇ ⬅ X
  • Low Spin Parry: ⬇ ⬅ X ⬇
  • Gotham Stars: ⬅ ➡ Y
  • Up Gotham Stars: ⬇ ⬅ Y
  • (Air) Akimbo Blaze ⬇ ⬅ Y
  • Fatal Drop: ⬇ ⬅ A
  • Lethal Lunge: ⬇ ➡ A
  • (Air) Vendetta Slam: ⬇+LB
  • Supermove – Gotham’s Outlaw: LT+RT

Perhaps worth noting is the fact that Red Hood appears to have meter burn on every special move, and it’s unlikely that anyone playing him early would have time to unlock all the gear necessary to make that happen. That may point to a unique trait for the character.

Next are (some of) his basic attacks:

  • Gotham’s Fist: X
  • Deadly Palm: ⬅+X
  • Quick Strike: ⬇+X
  • Hammer Hook: Y
  • Shin Slam: ⬅+Y
  • Bloody Knuckles: ➡+Y
  • Rising Blade: ⬇+Y
  • Flick Kick: A
  • Side Kick: ⬅+A
  • Down Blade: ➡+A

And finally, here are his combos, which include some references sure to please Bat-nerds:

  • Lethal Force: X, X
  • Extreme Measures: X, X, Y
  • Murderous Vigilante: ⬅+X, A
  • No Jokes: Y, Y
  • Another Outlaw: Y, Y, A
  • Death In The Family: ⬅+Y, A
  • Gunned Down: ➡+Y, A
  • Seeking Revenge: ➡+Y, A, X
  • Killing Criminals: A, Y
  • Under The Hood: A, Y, A

It looks like we won’t have long to wait before we can try Red Hood for ourselves. In any event, we’ll be able to get a more in-depth look at Red Hood by tuning into NetherRealm’s Twitch channel today, June 7th, at 1 p.m. PT.
