With the popularity of the Attitude Era Mode in WWE ’13, it’s no surprise that developer Yukes wanted to up the ante for their next game—and new publisher 2K has announced that they’ll be doing just that in WWE 2K14.

In the just-announced 30 Years of WrestleMania Mode, players will get to relive classic matches from recent and bygone WrestleManias in celebration of the event’s 30th anniversary. Over 45 matches will be offered up for WWE fans to experience, including: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant from WrestleMania 3; The Rock vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 18; and The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 28.

Like the Attitude Era Mode, players will be rewarded for playing to an outcome that mimics the real-life finish of each match, where accomplishing specific memorable moments from the match will unlock bonuses such as additional characters, alternate outfits, and WWE photography.

One of the most interesting aspects of the 30 Years of WrestleMania Mode, however, is that a lot of work is going into presenting those matches in the style of the era. Visual filters will be used to give the feel of the world of pre-HD television, classic elements such as arenas, crowds, and wrestler ring attire have been re-created, and the WWE video production department are even producing video packages specifically for the game to bring fans up to speed on what lead up to each match storyline-wise (in case you weren’t old enough to be around at the time).

“For nearly three decades, WWE has inspired millions worldwide through the historic, cultural and undeniable phenomenon that is WrestleMania,” 2K senior director of marketing Chris Snyder said in the announcement of the 30 Years of WrestleMania Mode. “Through the 30 Years of WrestleMania Mode in WWE 2K14, players can now relive their favorite nostalgic and recent WrestleMania moments – from an incredible roster to authentic presentation and match play – in a unique and engaging way.”

Also, as part of the lead-up to SummerSlam this weekend, 2K will be revealing the full roster of WWE 2K14 on Saturday, August 17th. Hosted by Jim Ross, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Damien Sandow, fans can watch the presentation live via 2K’s Twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/2K.
