Remedy Isn’t Finished With Alan Wake Yet – ‘Surprises Planned’

THE BUZZ: Remedy boss, Matias Myllyrinne has revealed that the team isn’t finished with Alan Wake yet, and has plans for future projects.
“We’re crowd pleasers, we’ll do what the audience wants, ’cause usually that’s the good business move as well,” he told Joystiq. After the far from impressive sales figures of Alan Wake the developer has decided to switch to smaller downloadable releases with the upcoming Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.
“I’m loving the digital [distribution] side and we’ll see how that evolves, but just being able to give people quick access to bite-size chunks of gaming is maybe more fun than working for years and years – taking the phone offline and closing the shutters – at least, this way, you’re able to react much more quickly to people’s desires and wishes.”
Remedy is planning on offering fans more Alan Wake but only if sales of American Nightmare and Alan Wake PC do well.
“Hopefully, we’ll have one or two surprises… I don’t know. I don’t know if that would dictate it. If it bombs [laughs], then that’s certainly a signal, but we’re fairly confident that it’ll do well. We’ll certainly continue with Wake. Right now we’re focusing on getting the PC out next week, then getting American Nightmare out,” Myllyrinne concluded.
EGM’s TAKE: We want more Alan Wake! The original was a fantastic game, it just struggled with a poor release timing and ended up being crowded out by Red Dead Redemption. The episode set-up for the game was perfect and actually made the whole game feel like an actual TV series, combat was fluid and the story was captivating and well thought out. There’s no real reason that American Nightmare shouldn’t do well as long as the game’s core remains intact.
