A prequel to Borderlands 2 is in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, according to a new report.
GamePointsNow.com reports that the shooter takes place between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, and that development is being shared between 2K Australia and Gearbox Software.
Apparently the story will focus on a younger Handsome Jack who is after a powerful alien artifact. The game will take place on the moon of Elpis and Hyperion’s H-shaped base, both of which can be seen in Borderlands 2, according to the site, with players taking control of one of Jack’s four lieutenants: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer, and Fragtrap, a militarized version of Claptrap.
Players must contend with low gravity, using jetpacks to move around, and have to manage their oxygen reserves to survive.
Last week, Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford reiterated on Twitter that Borderlands 3 is not in development, but teased: “I did confirm more for the Borderlands franchise, though,” but this could easily be referring to Tales from the Borderlands with Telltale Games.
We’ve contacted 2K about the report.
