A mysterious photograph of a slide may have just outed the existence of Dishonored II, as well as the fact that it’ll be fully announced at E3 2014.
The above image was recently posted to AllGamesBeta’s Twitter account with no explanation of its origin. As such, it’s completely unverifiable in almost every respect, but it does look plausible enough. The logo and iconography are reasonably high quality but not just copy/paste jobs of the first game’s art or logotype. The hashtag (and potential subtitle) at the bottom, “Darkness of Tyvia,” refers to a location that was referenced but never seen in the first game.
If Dishonored II is indeed real and set in Tyvia, it would be a dramatic change of scenery from Dunwall, the setting of the first game. Tyvia is referred to as a snowy northern locale, loosely based on the real-world countries of Norway and Sweden. As such, it would presumably feature long nights during the winter months, which would translate to a lot of—you guessed it—darkness.
Late last year, Arkane Studios’ HR manager tweeted that the studio was developing an unspecified game in CryEngine 3. That might have been referring to Dishonored II, though it might easily be the studio’s other heavily rumored project, Prey 2.
Either way, with E3 fast approaching, it’ll only be a matter of time before this rumor is either confirmed or debunked in full. And with the success of the first Dishonored, you can be certain a sequel will be headed to next-gen consoles at some point—even if this particular leak turns out to be a hoax.
