Report: Two Assassin’s Creeds coming this year, one set in 18th-century Paris

Posted on March 19, 2014 AT 11:24am

Two Assassin’s Creed games are coming this fall, one of which titled or codenamed “Unity” and is set in 18th-century Paris, Kotaku reports.

According to Kotaku’s sources, who also supplied the outlet with early, work-in-progress screenshots, Unity will be for the newer consoles—PS4 and Xbox One—while the other Assassin’s Creed title (possibly titled or codenamed “Comet” will be for PS3 and Xbox 360.

The screenshots suggest that the next Assassin’s Creed installment will jazz up the series’ parkour-inspired navigation by implementing separate “Parkour Down” and “Parkour Up” buttons (these names, no doubt, are placeholders). Again, it should be reiterated that these screenshots—if legitimate, and it seems they are (Kotaku cites “a number of sources,” some of which are described as “developer sources”) are from an early build of the game, and are in no way indicative of the visual quality the final product will boast.

It was about this time last year when Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and while the company isn’t commenting on Kotaku’s reports to any outlets at the moment, they no doubt have a formal announcement about the next AC game lined up for the near future. I’d put my money on sometime between the end of GDC (this weekend) and the start of PAX East (three weeks from now).
