Resident Evil 6: Capcom Issues Official Statement About On-Disc DLC

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 6 will have a lot of downloadable content announced in the future, but according to them, most of it isn’t on-disc. Does that sound believable to anyone?

Eurogamer spoke to a Capcom representative earlier today, who actually admitted there was some DLC that requires on-disc data in order to work more efficiently.

Speaking with Eurogamer this afternoon, a Capcom spokesperson admitted that one piece of Resident Evil 6 DLC requires downloaded data and on-disc data to work, but declined to offer specifics. Based on the information available, this may be the No Hope difficulty.

“We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc,” the spokesperson said.

So far, Resident Evil 6 has been revealed to have a secret “No Hope” difficulty level, but multiplayer content (costumes, attacks, and taunts) can be unlocked during normal gameplay.

Either way, the biggest takeaway from this is that Resident Evil 6 apparently has a lot more content that you might need to pay for separately from the main game. If that’s the case, it’s rather distressing, especially since Capcom will already be making quite a pretty penny of RE6, which has already shipped 4.5 million copies worldwide.
