Yep, It Looks Like There’s Going To Be A Sixth Resident Evil Movie

At some point, you’ve got to tip your hat to Capcom and Paul W.S. Anderson—the Resident Evil franchise is going to make a lot of money this weekend. In fact, the latest movie may not even be the last one.
Not only do the films continue to make more money at a baffling pace (despite mostly negative movie reviews), Anderson returned to directing the franchise with intent of getting another sequel out of it. As the prolific filmmaker tells GamerLive TV, a potential sixth film will take cues from Resident Evil 6:
Q: Do you think [Resident Evil 6 will influence the direction you're taking with the next film?
A: Yeah, I think so. We have a very symbiotic relationship with the video game franchise. To start with, the very first [Resident Evil] movie I made was a prequel to the very first game, so it kind of led straight into that first game. Since then, the video game franchise has kind of taken ideas from those concept from the movie, like the laser corridor, the Red Queen. These are things that all made an appearance in the video game franchise. So, I think it’s cool that they’re on parallel tracks, kind of taking from each other and feeding one another.
Anderson also highlights why this film is filmed entirely in 3D, stressing how he thinks it’s lazy for film companies and other directors to do film conversions. As such, Resident Evil: Retribution was shot natively in IMAX 3D.
Once the film has run its course, an alternate extended Blu-ray release with a much longer running time will follow.
Early projections suggest that Retribution will be the most successful movie in the series so far, and with Resident Evil 6 fueling general excitement with the upcoming demo, it’ll probably spike next weekend as well.
There’s also a rumor that Anderson is currently working on a Monster Hunter film, or at the very least, has knowledge that one exists and is currently in the planning stages with an undetermined studio. We can’t believe it, either.
