The latest investor report from Capcom is alluding to plans for either Resident Evil-themed warfare in Northeast Asia or the next major entry in that series.
Resident Evil is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and perhaps the most harmonious capstone would be finally releasing Resident Evil 7?which would also mark the series’ debut on current-gen systems. A statement from Capcom to its investors pulled by NeoGAF user Chobel all but confirms this line of thinking:
In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release? Resident Evil Umbrella Corps? of the Resident Evil series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year.
Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata earlier this year said that fans should stay tuned for the seventh entry, so the news of a forthcoming release may only serve to alleviate built-up suspense rather than surprise. The statement doesn’t guarantee a 2016 launch, as anywhere up until March 2017 still falls under the 20th anniversary window.
Although it’s been almost four years since the release of Resident Evil 6, Capcom has made sure to keep the franchise in the minds of many since then, with the release of Resident Evil: Revelations and its sequel, HD remasters of Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Zero, and the announcement of a remake of Resident Evil 2.
