The event will begin February 14 at 9 AM PST, and run until February 15 at 9 AM PST. During this period users will be logged by the Guinness World Record team as long as they stay married for these 24 hours. Players have the option to marry any gender, class or race as long as they are from the same faction. As a nice little bonus, Trion is also offering the Tier of Knots achievement.
EGM’s TAKE: Trion is really trying to push this in-game marriage update, but does it really mean anything. Marriages were introduced to MMOs so that players could celebrate actual love between two in-game characters and sometimes real love and relationships blossom from these encounters. However, the main reason that people are going to partake in this event is to get a new achievement and be part of a Guinness World Record, which kind of cheapens the whole mechanic. Although there is another side, the fact remains that this is just a publicity stunt and after this the mechanic will probably be used for its original purpose, to spread love any joy throughout the game world. (Cue butterfly release.)
