The creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, announced this morning on Steam that his company Skybound Entertainment is partnering with Starbreeze Studios and Overkill Software to make a new Walking Dead game.
“I’m a huge fan of what Overkill and Starbreeze have been able to do with Payday 2,” said Kirkman. “It’s just an amazing co-operative game and I’m excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with Overkill to make a Walking Dead game. I’m happy to say that it’s the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for.”
To commemorate the partnership, Kirkman also revealed Negan’s barbed-wire baseball bat “Lucille”, is available to download now for PC players of Payday 2.
Starbreeze CEO Andersson Klint also released a statement shortly after Kirkman’s announcement saying, “The collaboration between Starbreeze Studios and our partner Skybound Interactive will deliver something uniquely exciting for our millions of fans. We’re two independents joining forces to create the ultimate survival horror game. With Robert on the team, we will bring The Walking Dead into the world of first-person shooter co-op games.”
The game, officially titled Overkill’s The Walking Dead, will also supposedly be available for next-gen systems via an updated Diesel engine. According to the reveal trailer (embedded below), the game looks to be heading for a 2016 release date.
