Rockstar wants to “blow consumers away” with the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto V, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.
“In the case of GTA V, nothing but the very best will satisfy Rockstar,” he told MCV. “They want to blow consumers away. Whatever the expectation is, they want to exceed it. When you see GTA V on next-gen, I want you to tell me whether it is or isn’t better than your expectation. I can guarantee it will be better.”
The game has already sold 34 million copies across PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but Rockstar and Take-Two still aren’t satisfied. “One way to look at it is that 34 million copies have been sold, but there’s 7 billion people on Earth,” he said. “So we have over 6.9 billion people left to address.”
Zelnick went on to share his confidence in the next-gen versions of the game selling well. “It’s a massive market and an amazing title. GTA is the standard bearer in the industry. How can you buy a next-gen console and not want to play GTA on it?”
However, that doesn’t mean that Rockstar are just going to sit back and stop trying. “We are not trying to deliver the minimum acceptable quality and monetize it,” he added. “We are trying to delight consumers and monetize it.”
Grand Theft Auto V is set to launch this fall on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
