Roguelike puzzle game Road Not Taken is coming to PlayStation 4 on August 5 (August 6 for Europe) and to PlayStation Vita this fall, developer Spry Fox has announced.
Road Not Taken sees players take on the role of a magic-wielding ranger as they wander through a mysterious forest in the aftermath of a large snowstorm. As players explore they will come across wild animals, impassable barriers, and lost children. The aim is to save these children by solving single-screen puzzles.
“What might a roguelike look like if it featured a thinker and explorer instead of a traditional warrior? If being clever was more important than being strong? That’s a design challenge we’ve attempted to tackle with Road Not Taken,” said Spry Fox’s chief creative officer Daniel Cook.
To celebrate the release date announcement, the developer has put together a new trailer (above) that “you might need to have lived through the late ’80s or ’90s to really get it,” according to David Edery, CEO of Spry Fox.
