THE BUZZ: The next Dead Space title could utilize the Frost Bite 2.0 engine, according to a recent events.
EA Montreal was renamed to Visceral Games Montreal last year as the Dead Space team expanded. A recent EA job listing reads: ”Dead Space Franchise is currently seeking a Senior Environment Artist opportunity in our Montreal studio.” This adds further evidence towards a new Dead Space title coming out of the studio.
The interesting part comes from a tweet sent out by DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson:
“Flying off to Canada & the U.S. to visit a whole bunch of Frostbite-powered EA studios before GDC. First stop: Montreal.”
EGM’s TAKE: Could this mean that EA has extended the use of the Frostbite engine to the Dead Space studio in Montreal? It makes sense considering it is a major franchise for EA and the environments and atmosphere of the game would certainly suit the engine. While the evidence appears to add up it’s all just conjecture, only EA and DICE truly know who has access to the engine and what it’s being used for.
