RUMOR: Images Appear Online of New PlayStation 3 4000 Series Model
Posted on July 16, 2012 AT 03:04am

Mysterious images of what appears to be the new 4000 series PlayStation 3 model have shown up online, fueling rumors of an announcement coming at Gamescom.
The images appeared on the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications Anatel’s website, and were picked up by Portuguese website Tecnoblog. The images show a black device labeled as a PS3, but with a ridged top panel. Tecnoblog also uncovered a document from Sony Brazil, which claims that three new PlayStation 3 models have been submitted for certification. The CECH-4011A contains a 16GB hard drive, the 4011B-CECH comes with 250GB, and the CECH-4011C has a massive 500GB hard drive.
This information matches the documents for a new 4000 model that were filed with the FCC by Sony earlier this month, stating that the console will be smaller, lighter, and more energy efficient. This new model is expected to be announced at Gamescom next month.
