RUMOR: Leaked GameStop List Says Wii U Launching This November
Posted on July 23, 2012 AT 10:42am
Nintendo still won’t break their code of silence regarding the Wii U’s official release date, so it’s up to alleged leaks and industry gossip to try pinning down a launch window (and a price). GameStop usually has the inside track on console information, and a supposedly-leaked document indicates that the Wii U’s coming to shelves around November 14th.
The Verge got hold of an image of GameStop’s latest releases list, which most stores use as reference when making pre-orders. Although much of it is obviously placeholder information, the earliest two dates in the document are 11/14/12 for two games: Rise of the Guardians and Ben 10 Omniverse.
Every other game on the list is noted with a $99.99 price point and 01/01/13 release date, which will most likely not be the case for any of them, and simply represent current placeholders. At the very least, New Super Mario Bros. U and Pikmin 3 are expected to be launch titles.
Although Nintendo is running out of time to announce a release date, it’s probably best to assume that the early weeks in November is an accurate guess. Black Friday is typically the best sales opportunity for any retailer and company, and the Nintendo Wii’s sales benefitted greatly from a pre-Black Friday release date that rolled right into the year’s biggest shopping day.
