RUMOR: Major Game Distributor Leaks Price, Release Date for Wii U
Posted on September 4, 2012 AT 11:19am
Video Product Distributors—a company that supplies videogame hardware and software stock to retailers like Amazon and Blockbuster—has posted up listing into its system which may tell the release date and price of the Wii U.
Given that this information is coming from a company who is responsible for getting stock to retailers, one would assume they wouldn’t post such details without having at least some solid information to go off of. Still, as we all know, nothing it set in stone until Nintendo says so.
According to Video Product Distributors, the Wii U will be hitting on November 11th, and will come in one of three bundles: $249, $299, and $349. What exactly those bundles will include is still an unknown—but if those price points are indeed correct, we can certainly have fun speculating.
If true, I’ll be honest: $249 was the price point I thought the Wii U needed to come in at. Without downplaying at all the tech surrounding the new controller, as a basic gaming console it’s going to be hard—at least at first—for many to separate the Wii U from the now long-in-the-tooth Xbox 360 and PS3. Price the Wii U too high, and consumers could be convinced to just wait for Microsoft and Sony’s next ventures instead of giving Nintendo’s new platform a try.
What do you think of those price points, and what do you think might be included with each bundle?
