RUMOR: Microsoft Building Xbox Set-Top Box, Launching Alongside Next Xbox in 2013
Posted on November 21, 2012 AT 11:56am
Today it’s two great rumors that go great together, as supposedly Microsoft is prepping an Xbox set-top media device to be launched alongside their next Xbox console.
Even better? They’re both supposedly being launched in time for holiday 2013.
Today on The Verge, the site claims to have heard from “multiple sources familiar with Redmond’s plans” that the company will be unveiling a “low-cost alternative” Xbox device. This device would be more along the lines of products such as Apple’s Apple TV, and would be based around providing access to media and casual games.
According to The Verge, this all comes as part of an effort on Microsoft’s part to “ensure its core architecture for the next-generation Xbox is scalable enough to be put together to run on a number of devices.” Both this Xbox set-top box, and the next proper Xbox console itself, would be revealed early next year, and released in time to hit the holiday shopping season.
So—what do you think? Would you have any interest in an Xbox-based media streaming device?
