RUMOR: Microsoft Points to be Scrapped With Release of Next Xbox

Posted on May 15, 2013 AT 06:50am

Microsoft is set to announce that it will be scrapping its points currency with the release of the next Xbox, according to a new report.

The Verge claims that sources familiar with the matter have told them that Microsoft Points will be replaced by a gift card system similar to iTunes, which will allow users to purchase real currency to be used for downloadable content. Of course credit and debit cards will still be accepted.

This new system will apparently spread across the Windows Store, Windows Phone Store, and Xbox Live. According to The Verge, Microsoft is planning to announce the change at E3 next month.
