RUMOR: Microsoft Working on 7-inch Gaming Tablet Called Xbox Surface
Posted on November 8, 2012 AT 05:57am

A new report is claiming that Microsoft is currently working on 7-inch gaming tablet which will be called Xbox Surface.
Multiple sources have told The Verge that the company is developing a tablet that will include a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM for use specifically with gaming. According to the source, most of the specifications are already decided on, but may be altered to adopt an unannounced Intel SoC.
This tablet won’t run a full version of Windows, but will run a custom made Windows kernel which may support messaging and other widely used tablet features, however the main focus is on gaming. The sources also claim that Microsoft has developed a secret hardware production process for the tablet which is separate from partners who usually manufacture Xbox consoles.
Finally it was revealed that part of the Xbox Surface is being developed at Microsoft’s offices in Silicon Valley, which would explain the recent lock down of several offices on the site, restricting access to both visitors and employees from other parts of the site.
When asked about the tablet Microsoft responded with its usual we do not comment on rumor and speculation line.
