RUMOR: New PlayStation 3 Jail Break Being Readied for Global Launch
Posted on October 21, 2011 AT 06:55am
THE BUZZ: Reports are suggesting that the PlayStation 3 has once again been opened up to piracy via a new hack set to take over for PSJailBreak.
The new hack named JB2 uses a USB dongle which plugs into the PlayStation 3 and circumvents the consoles security measures, giving users access to developer features and allowing the installation of illegal or copied code. All games released after the recent 3.60 firmware update which blocked the original Jail break cannot be played from the HDD and must be burnt to Blu-ray discs. There is no solid evidence that the hack exists bar Internet talk and apparent videos of it in action, however a small launch is said to have happened in Indonesia with a full global launch in the works.
EGM’s TAKE: Piracy sucks and is terrible for the industry, but as long as there are consoles there will be hackers trying to play copied games on them.
