According to a new report, Microsoft is currently working on a dashboard update that will track how much exercise you are getting from your Kinect gaming time.
Titled ‘Kinect Play Fit’ the built-in feature will allow you to track your exercise across all Kinect games. A heart rate monitor peripheral is also set to be released called ‘Joule,’ that will wirelessly track your heart rate while you play – allowing the feature to give a more accurate reading.
The device will be compatible with most Kinect games and is an optional extra – not a requirement – for using the Kinect Play Fit feature.
A way of accurately monitoring your exercise across all Kinect games would come in handy as currently it’s only the fitness titles that offer such stats. Considering that the majority of titles require you to jump around and exert a fair amount of energy to play them, seeing some stats on them would be nice. We don’t foresee this little heart rate peripheral selling too well, as it’s just a little bit over-the-top, strapping that to yourself everytime you want to play a Kinect game. The whole thing seems a little flash in the pan, it will be tried by many, but used by few.
More information will apparently be available at E3.
Would you regularly use this peripheral and feature? Share your thoughts below.
