According to a VGLeaks source, an external peripheral for the next Xbox will serve as competition for Apple TV and provide the system with backwards compatibility.

VGLeaks reports that the “Xbox Mini” is a stand alone product that provides two services. First, and arguably chief among them, is adding backward compatibility to the Xbox [Whatever]. By their description, it sounds as though players ail insert Xbox 360 discs into the new Xbox console for the Xbox Mini to emulate.

The Xbox Mini is also reportedly competition for Apple TV, offering a variety of audio and video streaming services.

If the VGLeaks source is to be believed, the Xbox Mini’s price point will not exceed $150. The unit will reportedly require a network connection.

Microsoft was supposedly going to unveil the Xbox [Whatever] at the end of this month, but current rumors indicate that reveal has been pushed to the end of May—just three weeks before E3 in June.
