Sony’s PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset is set to release late 2014, according to new sources.

Various development sources who have got their hands on the prototype have told Games Industry that the headset uses the PlayStation Eye camera to track movement, making it more accurate than the Oculus Rift. At the moment the prototype has “ping pong balls” attached to it to allow the PlayStation Eye to track it better.

The sources added that the reason for the late release is that there won’t be enough titles available in time for the PlayStation 4’s launch to really show off the technology.

CVG reported earlier this weekthat Sony plans to reveal the headset at the Tokyo Game Show. For now all of this is still labeled as a rumor as Sony is yet to officially confirm the headset’s existence.
