RUMOR: Sony Preparing to Axe Zipper Interactive
Posted on March 26, 2012 AT 06:47am
THE BUZZ: Sony is set to close first-party studio Zipper Interactive, according to circulating rumors.
Kotaku claims that an annonymous source has informed them of mass layoffs at the studio and a project cancellation, which has led to studio closure.
Sony has declined comment on rumors and speculation.
EGM’s TAKE: For such a major studio as Zipper to go down is devastating. They’ve enjoyed relatively good success with the SOCOM series, although they could never push it out of Call of Duty’s shadow. Their Vita game Unit-13 was also well received, but it appears that these facts just weren’t enough for Sony to warrant keeping them open. If this rumor turns out to be true then we hope that all those made redundant find new work quickly.
