Square-Enix has requested that retailers destroy all their current stock of Final Fantasy XIV, presumably to prepare for the upcoming relaunch.
A NeoGAF poster who claims to work in retail has revealed that the firm is offering $16 dollars per copy in compensation. When asked about the destruction order Square refused to comment. The company is working on a reboot of the game titled A Realm Reborn, which is due to release later this year.
Destroying the old stock would make perfect sense as Square wouldn’t want any of it being on shelves after the new version releases, the box won’t represent the new product and may hurt sales.
