Valve’s Steam Box is set to be unveiled later this year and will use Linux instead of Windows, according to a new report.
German tech site Golem.de reports that Valve electronics engineer Ben Krasnow confirmed at the EHSM 2012 conference in Berlin last month that the Steam Box will run a Linux-based system. A member of NeoGAF has translated the article which points to a Steam Box reveal later this year at either GDC 2013 in March or E3 2013 in June.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Steam Box did use a Linux system instead of Windows due to Gabe Newell’s vocal disliking of Windows 8. However, I feel that Valve would be shooting itself in the foot by going down the Linux path due to the lack of compatible games.
