Rumor: Xbox 720 Devkit Tech Specs Leaked
Posted on January 8, 2013 AT 11:20am

Rumors ahoy: A post on NeoGaf claims an inside source has confirmed the Xbox 720 devkit tech specs.
Again, what follows is all completely unconfirmed rumor with a light sprinkling of conjecture.
According to the NeoGaf post, the insider—a user posting on the TGFC Club forums—is “a former UBI (now other 3rd party) employee.” The post also claims that “other users confirm his affiliation to the industry.”
We believe “UBI” may refer to Ubisoft. “Other third party” suggests another third party developer. And recent reports that Ubisoft is working on a next-gen engine suggests they have access to next-gen devkits.
According to the insider, the Xbox 720 devkit possesses:
- An 8-Core CPU
- 8GB Memory
- An AMD 8800 Series GPU
- Windows 8 Kernel OS
- A 640GB Hard Drive
Remember, these specs are (supposedly) for the devkit, which means the consumer version of the Xbox 720 (or whatever it winds up being called—hopefully just “Xbox”) might not have the same guts. I would venture to say, however, that a 640GB hard drive seems believable—the current high-end hard drive is 320GB. If next-gen consoles emphasize digital distribution, or allow for full game installs, such high storage capacity would be necessary.
Thoughts on this rumor? Thoughts on what you’d like from the next Xbox? Share ‘em, folks.
