Another round of next-generation rumors have hit the Internet claiming that Microsoft’s next console will simply be called “Xbox,” along with several details about the new hardware.
The details come from the penultimate issue of Xbox World which is soon to be shut down and it appears that it is going out with a bang via an eight page feature on Microsoft’s new console. The first major revelation is that the new console will apparently go with the simplified name of Xbox instead of Xbox 720 as many have been throwing around. It does sound a whole lot better than Xbox 720 so I’m all for this name if it’s real.
Another bomb shell that was dropped by the magazine’s editor in chief Dan Dawkins is that the console is going to be revealed long-before E3 2013, does this mean the console will be out before the annual gaming event? “Xbox World has been at the cutting edge of Durango (codename) coverage for over 12 months. Unless something really dramatic changes, everything we reveal in our penultimate issue will be revealed long before E3 in June,” he told CVG.
The magazine also offers up a few key details about the console, it will come with Kinect 2.0 as standard and use Blu-ray discs, plus it uses a CPU with “four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores” and comes with 8GB of RAM. There’s also talk of Augmented Reality Glasses being implemented later in the console’s life cycle.
Now if all these details haven’t got you excited then I don’t know what will.
What do you think? Sound too good, or not good enough? Is Xbox the right name? Share your thoughts below.
