RUMOR: Xbox 720 to Utilize Radeon 6000 Card – Six Times the Power of 360

THE BUZZ: According to a new report the next generation of Xbox will contain a Radeon 6000 series GPU.
IGN has been told by ”sources close to the project” that Microsoft is planning to use the one year old graphics processor instead of the recently rumored newer 7000 series. The chip will allow support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output.
The report continues by claiming that the new processor will allow for ”six times the processing power” of the Xbox 360 and a ”20 percent greater performance” over Wii U. The source states that the console will ship to retailers, ”late October or early November of next year.”
EGM’s TAKE: There have been so many rumors regarding the next Xbox that it’s difficult to know what to believe any more. One week there’s a report that the console will use the 7000 series the next it’s the 6000 series, although this would be an easy mistake to make, if someone had heard that the console would utilize a Radeon chip they would have jumped to the conclusion of it being the newest version. It’s no longer a matter of if, but when Microsoft will reveal their next console, with the amount of rumors racking up an E3 reveal seems a likely target, or at least some talk of the next generation by Microsoft at the event.
