A patch has been sent out from Microsoft in order to stop allegedly modified consoles from accessing Xbox Live however it appears to be having other effects also.
The patch appears to be connected to the new dashboard update. The update is designed to show an E66 error on consoles after the update is downloaded preventing them from connecting to the service or playing any games.
However like one unlucky gamer found out over at SideQuesting.com the update can also hit some un-modified consoles. The person was 110% adamant that he had never modified his console in anyway yet he had been hit with this error.
Upon contacting Xbox Support he was told that the update was only sent out to people suspected of using a modified console and if he was receiving the error then his console had failed the security check and was obviously modified.
He wasn’t the only one with the problem however as many users on Twitter have also been reporting a similar issues with unmodified consoles.
Microsoft are yet to comment on the situation.
