Jagex Games Studio has revealed that its free-to-play browser-based MMO Runescape 3 could see a release on mobile devices as early as this fall, thanks to the adoption of HTML5.

CEO Mark Gerhard and design director Mark Ogilvie confirmed the news in a recent interview with Forbes. “Tablets and other portable devices are in the future as we extend this ecosystem to any and all connected devices,” Ogilvie said.

The studio’s choice to move to HTML5 has allowed it to get the game running on smartphones and tablets, and it could be playable on Smart TVs in the near future, according to Gerhard.

Runescape 3 is set to launch this summer for PC as an update.
