Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is expanding his job responsibilities by taking over as Nintendo of America CEO.
The current chairman and CEO of Nintendo of America, Tatsumi Kimishima, will become managing director of Nintendo Co. Ltd., if the promotion is approved by shareholders. Reggie Fils-Aime, COO and president of Nintendo of America, will retain his position but report directly to Iwata.
The staffing shakeups are meant to “allow streamlined decision making” and “enhance Nintendo’s organizational agility in the current competitive environment,” according to a press released issued by Nintendo.
As part of Kimishima’s promotion, the new managing director will have a hand in retiring Nintendo executives Yoshihiro Mori (general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration) and Masaharu Matsumoto (general manager of the General Affairs Division).
In addition to announcing these staffing changes, Nintendo also reported a $366 million annual operating loss this fiscal year.
