SDCC 2012: Capcom Remaking JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure For PS3, Xbox 360
Posted on July 15, 2012 AT 05:12pm
Who remembers JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure from the PlayStation and Dreamcast days? If you fall into that select group of anime-watching, manga-reading fighting game fans, you might be interested to know that Capcom is bringing the super-obscure 1999 arcade game port to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Here’s the details from the Capcom Unity blog:
If you missed out on this game back in the PS1/Dreamcast era, here’s the basic gist. Based on a famous story arc from the hit JUMP manga series of the same name, JoJo is a most gorgeous Capcom fighter of the zaniest order. Expect insane combos and a dynamic, over-the-top roster. Each character has the power to unleash a supernatural familiar known as a “Stand,” giving them access to incredible special moves.
Given the age of the game, a simple re-release won’t do, so Capcom’s giving this the full “HD update remake treatment” with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD Ver.—which means that you can expect online play, tweaked controls, upgraded visuals, and (hopefully) a nice selection of widescreen viewing modes.
Personally, I’m looking forward to this because the same team that created this also created the greatest 2D fighting games in history, the entire Street Fighter III lineup. If you’re part of the niche fanbase that’s excited for this retro arcade title’s resurrection, get a friend to save $20 or 1600 Microsoft Points for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD Ver. when it releases on Xbox Live (August 21st) and PSN (August 22nd) later this year.
