Yoshinori Ono has made a huge announcement at San Diego Comic-Con today, announcing that the Street Fighter franchise will be seeing a live-action series produced by the same team behind the popular Street Fighter: Legacy short film. It’ll be distributed worldwide by Content Media Corporation in 2013, and helmed by British actor/director Joey Ansah (best known “Desh” from The Bourne Ultimatum).

As cited by CVG, the series will focus around the early years of Ryu and Ken’s training in Ansatuken. Hopefully, this means that the series will feature Akuma and several other Capcom characters from the Street Fighter canon this would roughly take place in, with the Alpha series.

Ansah also shared the news on the official YouTube page for the film in the comments section:

Hi ‘Street Fighter: Legacy’ fans and subscribers! The wait is finally over…. “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist”, the feature length series follow up to Legacy is officially in development. This channel has now evolved into the official “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” youtube channel. All your favorite ‘Legacy’ videos shall remain in place. Check back soon for the San Diego Comicon Official announcement video from the 25th Anniversary Street Fighter Panel.

Regards

~Joey Ansah

There’s potential gold here, as the Street Fighter: Legacy fan films proved to be enormously popular, raking in 7.5 million page views between the first teaser, the subsequent trailer, and the actual short film. Ansah’s talked openly before about finding good characters to play roles like Chun Li, so it’ll be exciting to see the final product.

Here’s a look at Street Fighter: Legacy. Now, just imagine this with a sizeable budget and Capcom’s backing—again, it’s gold.
