Sea of Thieves

Rare has revealed that it will be reducing the overall file size of Sea of Thieves in an upcoming update.

The update is due to arrive on February 6th and will significantly reduce the game’s footprint on all platforms. On Xbox One, the game’s install size will be reduced from 35 GB to 10 GB. While Xbox One X players will see the overall size reduced from 47 GB to 25 GB. Finally, the game’s size will be reduced from 47 GB to 27 GB on PC.

“Changes to how we generate game updates/patches will better enable us to manage future content being added to the game,” the developer added. “This might mean that patch sizes increase slightly in the future, but the benefit is that the game install size won’t increase significantly. If we didn’t make this change, the game install size would continue to increase, taking up more and more of your hard drive space.”

These changes will also allow the developer to “more quickly generate and transfer builds” leading to improvements in how quickly builds can be generated and shipped to players.

Sea of Thieves is available now on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.
