Sea of Thieves

Cursed Sails, the second big content update for Sea of Thieves, has arrived.

A teaser trailer from Rare shows a crew of skeletons commandeering a dilapidated old ship before driving it beneath the waves. Sure enough, Skeleton Ships are one of the three major features headed to the game.

That’s not all that’s added to the game, though. Players will be able to use a new three-player ship, the Brigantine, and will be able to make friends (and enemies) with the new Alliance system. Players can join together to take on dangerous voyages, but there’s always the risk of betrayal.

A new time-limited campaign will run in-game for the next three weeks. Once that window passes, players won’t be able to play the campaign, but all the new features of the update will remain in the game.

In celebration of the new update, Rare also shared a few stats about Sea of Thieves. By Rare’s count, the game has accumulated over 5 million players between Xbox One and PC. Videos about the game have reached over 300 million views on YouTube, with 40 million hours of content livestreamed on Twitch.

The next major update to Sea of Thieves, Forsaken Shores, is expected to launch in September.
