A brand new PvP mode is headed to Sea of Thieves.
Dubbed The Arena, the new mode sets you and a group of friends against rival crews. A new trading company, the Sea Dogs, is willing to pay for you to go hand-to-hand and ship-to-ship with other pirates, with the promise of loot at the end.
Matches in The Arena aim to condense the PvP already in Sea of Thieves, placing it in a set location with smaller, faster-paced matches. Rare executive producer Joe Neate described the mode as “competition on demand” during the mode’s reveal at X018, praising it as “all the best bits of Sea of Thieves condensed down into a shorter session.”
Pioneers, those players who have opted in to early previews of Sea of Thieves features, will be the first to play The Arena. They’ll have the chance to test it out and give feedback before an official launch date for The Arena is announced. Pioneers should have access to the new mode soon, and the full version is expected to launc in early 2019 if all goes well.
Sea of Theives is out now on Xbox One and PC.
