The second developer diary for Ninja Theory’s upcoming PS4 action game Hellblade explores the team’s research into Viking and Celt culture as a source of inspiration for their title’s world.

In the video (above), Hellblade’s art team takes a trip to a Viking exhibition at the British Museum to soak themselves in cultural inspiration. Senior concept artist Mark Molnar describes the process through which they take an idea grounded firmly in reality and start spiraling out into the more vicious, otherworld enemies protagonist Senua will need to slice through at the later stages of her journey. The last 40 seconds or so of the video contains examples of the concept art produced for Hellblade.

Hellblade was only just announced last month with a short, atmospheric trailer during Gamescom 2014. Ninja Theory has yet to announce a release window for the PS4 title, which they describe as a “AAA indie” game in its sensibilities and scope.
