Things are looking up for the video game side of Sega Sammy’s business, as the entertainment company is in the black for their first quarterly 2013 fiscal year report. Although it’s still not posting a profit, Sega’s “Consumer Business” division is apparently very happy with sales of London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games and Phantasy Star Online 2.

However, Sega Sammy’s video game products still prove to be their least profitable money maker.

In Q1 2011, Sega’s Consumer Business was the only division to record a loss, sinking themselves a cringe-inducing ¥3.856 billion into the red. One year later, the news isn’t nearly as bad.

During the April-to-June period this year, Sega’s video game wing only recorded a ¥1.559 billion loss, which actually means that it performed 59 percent better than last year (although it was still the only part of Sega Sammy to lose money).

As noted in their flash report, a lot of the credit goes towards London 2012, which moved “400 thousand copies in the U.S., 700 thousand copies in Europe, and 230 thousand copies in Japan.”

Phantasy Star Online 2 was also noted as a “brisk” seller as well—which actually isn’t too shocking at all, considering that Sega registered an official estimate of 700,000 users across all Japanese regions just a few days ago.
