The upcoming remaster of Shadow of the Colossus isn’t all about the visuals. There is some new content to be discovered, with one Easter egg paying homage to another popular title by the same developer.
During a recent livestream of the PS4 Shadow of the Colossus, IGN came across a cave in a forest to the southwest of the main shrine that the streamers did not recall being in the original game, despite playing through it several times. In the depths of the cave, the streamers found wooden barrels with blue butterflies around them, distinctly reminiscent of the barrels that could be fed to Trico, the beast from 2016’s The Last Guardian.
An image of one of these barrels from The Last Guardian can be seen below.
Entering the cave netted IGN a new trophy, titled Boon of the Nomad, which featured the description “Find Barrel in Hidden Cave.” Neither the barrel nor the butterflies could be interacted with, but a small glowing object could be picked up from beside the barrels. The object caused a song to come from the PS4 controller, but beyond that, IGN is unclear as to what its purpose is.
This is assuredly not the last secret to be discovered in the newest version of Shadow of the Colossus. For whatever else the community finds, players can take pictures of it with the experience’s new Photo Mode.
The remaster of Shadow of the Colossus launches on February 6th, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
